Wecyclers receive the King Baudouin African Development Prize 2018-2019

The King Baudouin African Development Prize 2018-2019 has been awarded to Wecyclers, a waste management start-up based in Lagos, Nigeria, for their work in combining waste collection with social development in some of the poorest areas of Lagos.

Awarded the prize on 12 June, in the presence of HM King Philippe and HM Queen Mathilde, in Brussels, the King Baudouin African Development Prize recognises the innovative dynamism that Wecyclers has created, going beyond the amount of waste collected, it is about promoting the attitude that processing waste offers benefits and opportunities while making economic, and environmental sense too.

The King Baudouin African Development Prize was established by the King Baudouin Foundation to reward outstanding contributions to development in Africa, initiated and led by Africans. The Prize furthermore seeks to draw public attention to the many inspirational stories, including challenges and successes, emerging from the African continent.
