Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity awarded to Global Covenant of Mayors
The Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity has been awarded to the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM) for its climate leadership across 11,000 cities and local governments worldwide to advance a low-carbon economy and society.
The jury of the 2nd edition of the Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity selected GCoM from 113 candidates from 48 different countries for its unmatched ability towards advancing a low-carbon economy and society in our cities. The award comes with a €1 million prize for supporting two projects in sub-Saharan Africa raising voluntary climate mitigation and adaptation action. These two projects will be carried out in close collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit and the European Investment Bank.
