Pl@ntNet

Pl@ntNet is a mobile app that can be used to identify plants by simply taking a picture, with the image being analysed by AI and volunteers and the process helping to promote a healthy relationship between society and science, while simultaneously logging information on plant location, phenology, ecology or uses, worldwide.

The research and educational initiative was started in 2009 by the Agropolis Foundation to enhance the use of the huge, underexploited reservoirs of data that can be accessed by ordinary citizens with the aim to improve Mediterranean and tropical agriculture and conserve biodiversity. People wishing to identify plants in their gardens or communities are effectively a crowdsourcing resource for researchers wishing to better understand regional flora, uncover new species and identify invasive threats.
